Project Description

Our Lady of Victories Parish (OLV) has had been a strong Catholic presence in the Mississippi delta for over 90 years.

From their roots as mission territory, to the first humble frame building that housed both church and rectory, to the “Court Street” location, and finally to their current home, like generations of Catholics, they’ve shown great faith throughout all their undertakings.

The current project: to renovate and expand their Church building, started with a simple need to repair pews and carpet. It quickly became a process of saying, “Wouldn’t it be good if…” dreaming of ways to make the church not just nice but truly beautiful, not just adequate but conducive to even more fellowship and activity.

In early fall, Guidance In Giving conducted a bilingual Feasibility Study for a Capital Campaign, to raise the funds necessary to renovate and expand the existing church building. Several months later, a Capital Campaign: “God’s House, Our Home,” “La Casa de Dios, Nuestro Hogar,” was in full swing.

As a small rural community with less than 400 parishioners, OLV took upon the task of raising the monies necessary to carry on with their long-term plans. The feasibility study set a campaign goal of $750,000 or more towards the parish project. To date, the campaign has raised over 130% of the campaign goal and with follow up process in progress their pledges will reach even greater numbers.

As they journey closer to the actual construction date, the anticipation and excitement is ever present. “The renovation of our beloved church will enhance out celebration of the Mass, and the addition will facilitate more faith-based activities.  My hope is that those who come after us, many years from now, will say, “We enjoy the fruit of their good labors.”  We have the privilege of helping build up the Lord’s house now, so that our faith will have a proper home for years to come.” – Father Kent Bowlds
